Shaping The Future With Brayden Brown At Board Theory — Young Shapers Series
Young board makers are the future of the craft and Brayden Brown from Daytona Beach, Florida at Board Theory is one of them. At the age of 17 and close to graduating High School he already has a knack for making surfboards. Brayden likes experimenting with design and shaping both conventional and unconventional boards just the same. He learned to glass from Mike Whisnant (Mike Whisnant Surfboards) and draws his inspiration from a lot of board makers around today. We caught up with Brayden and asked him a few questions about his venture into board making and some of the things we can expect from him in the future.
As a young shaper, who are some board makers that have helped influence you?
I would say Mike Whisnant, He has helped me with things I needed like technique in glassing and sanding. But shape wise I would say Donald Brink and Manuel C. Caro at Mandala Shapes. I have also been influenced by my grandpa Smokey Yunick with some of his car ideas and general thinking.
What kind of boards have you been working on lately?
Lately I have been doing a lot of modern planning hulls, performance shorties and anything unconventional or weird.
Are there any design concepts or boards you haven’t tried yet and are excited to start working on?
Concept boards i’d like to venture into is maybe something finless and more longboards but would really like to see more people on asyms (asymetrical boards)
Where can people buy or order your boards?
You can order boards from me by emailing at brayden@boardtheory.com or check out my website at www.boardtheory.com but in about a month i’ll be in a new workshop with a little show room and people will be able to come there and place custom orders or pick a stock out.
