Shaper Profile- Al Merrick
Al Merrick is arguably the best shaper of our generation. Inspired by the likes of Dick Brewer and Bob Mctavish, Al began shaping at a early age. Al took root in Santa Barbara where the worlds best were honing there skills at Rincon, California’s best point break. He picked up young Tom Curren who went on to win 3 world titles and become one of surfings best and most admired. 16 world titles have been won on Merrick”s boards by the likes of Tom Curren, Kelly Slater and Shaun Thompson. A feat no other shaper has attained and probably ever will. Today Al is still leading the way in surfboard design and innovation.
